Association of Country, State, City

Post by miplatt »

For data entry, we are trying to set up company information entry such that when we select a country from the drop down list, the related states and cities automatically populate the city and state drop-downs as opposed to having the whole list.

1) I have set up a User-generated event for the company table to get filter after changes country (not blank). It performs set linked field (query) for the city and state fields in company asking for the states (or cities in the case of cities) from the states/cities tables filtered by their respective countries. For some reason, when I try entering a new company and select a country, a state or city is shown immediately (in the normal General tab--not our HTML form) but the drop down still includes all. Am I missing something?

2) Since this is intended for our entry screen which, as you know, is in HTML form, it currently does not react to user-generated events. therefore this whole effort is essentially useless. Any suggestions?

1. You have to use the "Autofill dropdown" action for this, not the set linked field query action.

2. Well as you know by now, an HTML form basically means all of the GUI behaviour you need must be custom programmed from scratch, which includes user-generated events.
Until recently I thought it was programmatically impossible to send/get events from the HTML form to and from clay, but I recently found a way to do this so I will try to support this in an upcoming version in a few weeks.

Yes, found the fill drop-down and in works in the regular clay interface.

Enabling the html to deal with this and other user-generated events would be extremely helpful to us.
