Forms

Post by wthomas »

Can someone provide guidance.... I have created Tables for Employees and budget items.
I'm trying to make the buget items table/form a data entry form.. that when you choose an employee's ID you can enter vacation hours, holiday etc. by quarter and it will automatically show the first name and last name of the employee choosen...

I had assumed I could do this through linking .. but I can not get the form to give me the list of employees to choose from...

any help would be appreciated.. I have looked though the documentation .. but can not get it to work.
Thanks,

I'm a little confused: You want to display the name of the Employee chosen or you want a list of Employees by name for choosing?

For starters, you can use a simple linked field to the Employee table which will show values entered in the Name field of the Employee table. The Name field can be populated using Automation rules if you need to, and the user could search for the Employee using an ID using the 'Search...' item in the drop-down. (To open an advanced search query every time the user clicks on this item, go to Tools/Options/Advanced/Tables for Advanced Search).

You can also auto-populate the linked field drop-down values using an Automation Auto-fill/User Event with a 'Auto-fill Drop-down' action. This can get values from any field in a table, including a custom function that concatenates values.

You can also use Automation Set Field actions to auto-populate text fields with the employee name after he has selected an ID.

OK... I'm trying this one...

(You can also auto-populate the linked field drop-down values using an Automation Auto-fill/User Event with a 'Auto-fill Drop-down' action. This can get values from any field in a )table

When I go to the Automation action... the "drop-down" action does not allow me to choose it... it's grayed out..

Is there something I should be checking ..? I do have links to the tables...

The event has to be an Autofill/User Event and the field you select has to be a linked field or lookup list, and then it'll be enabled.
