Languages

Post by miplatt »

I had thought that Digital Clay works with any languages. Nevertheless, when Turkish characters were inputted into the system, we received the message in the posted attachment.

Please advise.

I read the wiki page regarding multiple languages and would like to clarify (and make sure I understand properly).

Our default language is English, whereas our non-English keyboard language is Hebrew.

At the same time, on many occasions we use text from other languages such as Turkish.

Turkish has code page conversion tables checked within the Control Panel/Regional and Language Options.

Whereas the Digital Clay interface windows show question marks in place of the unique Turkish characters, our office's HTML form seems to handle Turkish and be able to output properly to WORD.

Is this phenomenon due to HTML allowing all languages but Digital Clay not?

Is there any way for Turkish or other languages to appear in Clay also?

Any suggestions besides using English and Hebrew exclusively?

Actually you stumbled on one advantage of HTML form tabs: They support Unicode. I tested with Russian and Hebrew at the same time and it works for me.

The catch is, you must use HTML form tabs exclusively, otherwise you get the warning you saw above in your screenshot. I.e. if you load a normal Clay tab, data may get corrupted.

Note that Clay DOES support Turkish or any language. It just doesn't support multiple concurrent languages yet, unless you use Web-ClayStation or HTML forms.

As mentioned earlier, we have been able to use Hebrew for inputting and using data.

However, now, we found that when we sent a mailing through DC and put in a Hebrew subject, it came out in the resulting email as random symbols (gibberish).

Is there any way to allow the subject to be Hebrew? How about a subject line with Hebrew and English?

I tested and the e-mail subject+body came up in Hebrew just fine even if the ClayStudio interface language is in English.

Are we talking about the send-mail feature or sending of a document template? Perhaps it has to do with the e-mail client you are using to read the e-mails... what client are you using to check the e-mails? If it is a document template, then perhaps the template doesn't have the right encoding? What is your Clay interface language? What is your Windows default language set to?

We are talking about the subject line in the send-mail feature.

The subject line seems to be left-justified and when we switch languages it puts the next word on the wrong side. (just like writing in this window)

For example, instead of being able to type straight from 1 to 3 from right to left with 2 English in between and see "שלוש two אחד" , we see "אחד two שלוש"

Clay interface language: English

Windows default language: English
(Hebrew and other languages also enabled)

We receive and check emails using Outlook 2003.

I'm confused as to whether this is a gibberish issue or an alignment issue.

Unmixed Hebrew content works fine as far as alignment goes. The alignment for mixed content is e-mail client dependent and can be switched from RTL to LTR at the client end depending on the client and the default interface language. I tested sending the same mixed content from various e-mail systems and I get identical behaviour with all so it does not appear to be a Clay issue.

I have localized the issue: Hebrew characters in the subject line in the DC send-mail feature show up in Outlook as gibberish, whereas Hebrew in the email body appears normally.

This may be very simple...what am I missing? When we send and receive emails in outlook, Hebrew and all other languages seem to appear correctly. Thanks.
