NOTE: This is only applicable up until Digital-Clay version 8.5.0. 8.6.0 corrects this issue.

Digital-Clay 8.5.0 and lower is incompatible with Windows Data Execution Prevention on some machines only (Intel Pentium D and up).

Symptom: When ClayCentral or any Digital-Clay client is run, a runtime error 6666 occurs immediately at startup or the DEP error message pops up.

Explanation: DEP uses the latest hardware to prevent certain code behaviour that is usually associated with trojans and exploits. Digital-Clay employs advanced code optimizations that trigger this protection, resulting in a runtime error.

DEP is switched on by default on Windows Server systems but not on Workstations and Windows XP.

Solutions (Both in My Computer/Properties/Advanced/Performance Settings/Data Execution Prevention):

• Disable DEP. Select “Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs only”. OR:
• If DEP must be left on, add all the Digital-Clay exes to the list of programs ignored by DEP.
