Slow E-Mail Communications

Symptom: When using the Login via E-Mail option, communication is exceedingly slow.

Understanding the E-Mail option:

For remote connections where TCP is not an option, E-Mail communication provides an alternative communication method that can work from anywhere in the world. However, all requests to ClayCentral are sent and responded to via e-mail messages. Responses for every request should be expected to take 5-10 seconds.

Due to the slow speed of such communications, it is suggested that it not be used for regular use, but for special individual cases when TCP cannot be made available, or for synchronizing data only (i.e. connect, synchronize, and go offline).

If speeds exceed 5-10 seconds for simple/small requests, there are several things to try:

• A different mail server. Some mail servers are slow to respond, slow to send messages, or run locking mechanisms that interfere with multiple mail-checking applications. I.e. if the mail server only allows one login at a time to the same mailbox or mail message, the ClayCentral and client may be interfering with each other.

• Adjust the mail checking intervals in Digital-Clay (faster speeds may cause more conflicts with slow/locked mail servers):
  1. In Login/Configure: “Short Check Interval” defines how often to check for responses from ClayCentral
  2. In Login/Configure: “Check Interval” defines how often to check for background outgoing messages from ClayCentral
  3. In Central Settings: “Check Interval” defines how often ClayCentral checks for requests
