Adapting dashboard to different size screens

hi,

i created a dashboard on a 22" wide screen and when i send it to somebody else with a smaller screen the alignment gets all messed up to a level that it is readable.

is there any way to have it automatically adjust to different screen sizes and resolutions?

thanks,

Tani

It already does adjust to different screen sizes with an advanced algorithm. Some components (e.g. gauge, image) can't resize however due to their nature, so in some cases, switching to a smaller resolution will cause overlapping and other issues. Resizing up always works though.

Solution: You have to design a dashboard for the smallest size screen/resolution in which it will be used and save it that way.

can you implement a scrolling option for dashboards?

Not really. Mostly because auto-resizing and scrolling don't go together.

If you use the Web ClayStation, you'll notice that there we do have a scrollbar because the webclay doesn't/can't auto-resize dashboards.

Another minor reason is that dashboards are not meant to be multi-page documents. For that you have Document Templates. Dashboards are typically used for visualizing many different things together and you could always open more dashboards or sub-components if you don't have room on one dashboard. But this is debatable obviously.

since this is debatable i feel that it is an important feature and would like request that it be implemented please

Only the second reason is 'debatable'. I don't see a proper solution for the first.

In case this wasn't clear: A scrolling setting could be implemented for desktop clients, but this would mean that auto-resizing would be switched off when this is on. Since this post was all about auto-resizing and adjusting the dashboard for different size screens, I presumed this would be unacceptable for you.

on the contrary, that would be fine with me.

as long as the whole dashboard will be visible to people with different screen sizes without me having to adjust and rearrange per each user.
